hackernews whoishiring: auto-apply to jobs and lead finder

this tool helps you apply much faster on HN's whoishiring thread, it scrapes/categorizes/matches with ai and you have FULL control over each step (human-in-the-loop), and after you apply, you can always go back to "pull new jobs" and go again on the delta jobs through each step in the pipeline.

this is a tool I've build for myself, it's really useful and saves me a TON of time. it has sensible defaults, it's not sloppy and the default email template feels personal (please change it though! you don't want to sound just like everybody else). you also have my own personal defaults regarding company quality, location preferences, role preferences, visa requirements (see below) -- please change/personalize those!

ui is sloppy since there are so many components, but the core flow works well:

• add your gmail user/pass (can have multiple sending identities) and openai key, create an email template
• add your resume in profile/resumes/latest.pdf
• change your additonal preferences under profile/prefs/
• set your job match preferences in
• then start a session to parse a thread, ai categorizes in: has email, has application, link unknown
• then ai extracts emails (using regex first to save openai credits), obvious_lastname (for "hi {name}" in the mail)
• then you go through them and maybe hide any unwanted ones or mark as applied if you've already applied
• then select 1 or 2 to test the app, maybe do a dry run (it'll email you as a test), then live send (cehck your gmail Sent folder to confirm)
• email applicatins are automatically marked as applied to
• then maybe apply to the remaining 2 categories: the with-application-link and the "unknown" ones

remember, you buy this once and use it your whole life. I'll also provide updates for a fair price (obviously much less than full price). this is FULL source code, you don't depend on anything except gmail smtp servers and openai

FAQ1: does this use a different email body for each application? no, but you can easily integrate it yourself, it's just an llm call to enrich your email based on jd. but I'd personally advise against this, as you don't know what slop llm writes, and also just be genuine, this tool automates something that you would've done it yourself anyway -- it's not meant to help you lie.

FAQ3: what's the extra module for? if you're not looking to hire someone or you're not selling anything, you don't need it

FAQ4: is the extras module a tool for recruiters? ONLY if by recruiter you mean the company that's looking for hires, not intermediaries/agencies
